  • Got my bagger done

After 8 months I finally finished my 79SF bagger. It was being used as a litter box and chew toy for many generations of rodents. Wiring harness was chewed in many places, the entire fuel system was screwed, rust everywhere, but it had only 5600 miles on it. Internally, it was pristene. Lotsa sandblasting and soda blasting, complete rewiring and overhaul of the tank and carb system along with finding a factory fairing and bags (trunk is aftermarket)it was ready for paint.
It turned out good, runs like new, and I couldn't be happier.....

Nice job! Did you find lowers for that fairing too? What's with the duck-tail'd rear fender?

I haven't found lowers yet, but have enough paint for when I do. I cut off the rusted end of the rear fender and grafted a HD rear fender for three reasons...first to fill up the space between the bags, second to hold down water spray while riding in the rain, and third because I liked the way it looks.

By the way...at this point I still haven't spent $900 including buying the bike. The PO was a real idiot. It also helps to be retired with a complete shop in my barn.

Yeah, having tools makes a big difference. And a low-budget job to boot; even more impressive!

One of the best tools for restoring an old japanese bike is the soda blaster. I wish I would have had one of these years ago....

                            Engine before...

Engine after 10 minutes of blasting...

These types of things make restoring bikes a lot easier.
