How do you remove the electrical lead from front brake lever?

If your like me you break it off, because it brittle and your in a hurry and then you order a new one from mikesxs.
really though there are two little tabs that spring out and hold it in place. Its been a while but I think from the outside you'll see just two circular cut outs in the brake lever that you need to push in on to release it.1979 xs1100 Special -

first I believe you need to pull the rubber cover back on the brake light switch (that is what this is). I've never been able to get to the top one, but if you look underneath at the 6-o'clock position, you will see the circular cutout, take a small tip screwdriver and push up on the tab at the foward end of it and gently pull out on the switch. It will come out easy when you get that tab pushed in correctly.Life is what happens while your planning everything else!

They just snap in, It sounds like you are on the right track. You push in or pull out on the outside of the housing. I just popped mine out the other day, It's not hard at all.79 XS11 Special (Lazarus)

On every 11 I have here the switch has but one button to push to remove it. Look on the under side where the switch goes in and you will see a hole. Inside that hole is a plastic tab that you have to push in to release the wires. The only one in my stable that has 2 tabs to release is the 81LH clutch switch for neutral lockout. I do not know if others are different but mine range from 78 to 82 and they all check out that way.2-79 XS1100 SF

The switch will have two tabs but I am sure it only uses one tab and that is the one accessible from the hole on the underside of the MC.
BUT, having said that, it is good to have a spars since they get quite brittle.Mike Giroir

Once you un-can a can of worms, the only way to re-can them is with a bigger can.

Is there a thread on how to rebuild the front MC? I have mine off the bike and wish to start this, but i have never done this before and im already stuck on trying to pull this reservoir. I have read to gentle turn and pull (hasn't worked yet). I have the two bottom screws taken out, is there somthing im missing here?'78E

Yeah, leave out the 'gentle' part. The early standard master cylinders seem to be much tighter than the later ones, and I had to put some muscle in to get mine off. It will help if you can get a thin edge (like a paint scraper) between the reservior and the main body and gently pry while you turn (OK, there is some 'gentle' involved!).Fast, Cheap, Reliable... Pick any two
