  • where is this oil comin from?

    i just noticed oil in my airbox and seems like its coming from #1 carb drippin back thru the rear carb boot into the airbox is this possable ? and wa i do to fix it ?

    Hey there Bob,

    Sorry no one replied to your question yet!! The XS uses a positive crankcase ventilation tube(s) that go into the airbox to capture and reburn these fumes that slip past the rings and into the crankcase. However.....if you have over filled your oil, then the pressure will push oil up that tube and into the airbox. You need to check your oil level by the sight glass on the lower right side of the engine, with the bike on the CENTER STAND, not on the side stand! It usually only holds about 3 quarts after an oil change, if you've put more than that, then you've overfilled it! You should be able to see an oil level line floating between the two marks beside the sight glass.

      you want to make sure that rather than overfilling the oil, that you aren't getting gas in the oil from leaking petcock/float valves - oil thinned with fuel doesn't lube very well
