  • Exhaust band clamps

Here is a really silly question, but...
Are the exhaust clamps specific to Yama ha ha,
or will any generic clamp of the right diameter fit?

82 xj1100 that burps and farts way more than it should.

I'm only asking because my local dealer charges x3 and promises 3 weeks (minimum) delivery from Japan.

We have a really big Hardley Davidson dealer not too far away, but I'd like to walk in there, and not appear totally stupid, when I try to find stuff! Thanks!

    Hi Tantor,
what you need are stainless steel T-bolt clamps:-

I used them on my bike's header joints and on the replacement mufflers.

          Hi Nate,
the man was thinking of going into a Harley shop, he needs all the help he can get!
OK, worm-drive clamps work. T-bolt clamps work better. They have far more gripping power and they look nicer too.

Not as common to find in a store though unless you go to a more specialized place. Any and all hardware or home improvement store will have hoseclamps.

Worm drive hose clamps don't have enough clamping force for exhaust work (unless you're only attaching a heat shield). Something off a motorcycle, or a bolt-type clamp is needed. Try an industrial/hydraulic supply store; most will carry a 3/4"-wide T-bolt style clamp that will work...

The worm clamps were what I was trying to use. Your tip on the T-Bolts was enough to make me revive a few brain cells. A quick trip to my automotive wholesaler, I left with the parts in hand and the appropriate discount. Thanks!

I'm just so browned off at my local Yama Ha Ha dealer. The Japanese parts goof always has the same answer to my question.... "No Stock. Old bike. 3 weeks. Ship part from Japan. Not cheap. Get new bike!"

That is why I drive 30 miles to get proper service, from people who actually ride!

                  Thanks again for your help.

Without the cumulative knowledge on this site, I would have walked away from that old chunk of crap. Now I almost have it to the point of being a reliable daily driver. And I can finally start on cosmetics!
