I was looking for a chrome plater
the only one i could find seemed kind of high
he quoted me prices of 150 dollars for a ft fender and 60 dollars for handle bars
    does this pricing sound normal

if anyone has a plater that they deal with and are happy with thier

You can buy new handle bars for around $20 at my local MC shop.

I went all the way. Chromed engine covers, rear grab bar, carb tops and outer bowls, and engine and tranny covers, as well as wheels($200 each). $900 total. They usually like to do a lot at once, so the more you do, the more you save (I think). Chroming aluminum is more difficult, from what I understand. I didn't shop around, but it would be a good idea.

Hey there dragg, I would really like to see some pics of those chrome wheels, etc. Do you have them in the pic section of yahoo? I need some more things on my bike to sink money into and piss off the wife!

Wow, looks great. Looks like I just found a few more things to add to my never ending list of "stuff to do". One clean looking ride man.

Matt, one more question. I have heard that the motor covers should not be chromed due to heat dissipation (sp?). Had any trouble? Anyone else heard of this?

The valve cover has developed a couple of small bubbles. I think it's more due to plating flaw. After 4-5 months of riding the whole thing would be bubbling up by now. As far as heat disipation, I think that if it's that critical for these few engine parts, Thats a pretty crappy design. I still have a few things to do. I'm going to throw some paint back on the inside of the wheel spokes for a little more detail, and put a plastic front fender and engine scoop painted to match the tank. The rings are going, so a big bore kit is coming in early spring. Most of the ideas for it came from www.xseleven.com. Their shop will be doing the rebuilding for me. I bought all the aftermarket stuff from www.mawonline.com(best prices I know of).

For whoever might want the info.

My uncle chromed the valve cover on Rusty, then it sat under a tarp for like 15 years.. has about 25,000 miles on it, and I put about 2000 in the last 18 months after reserecting it..
most of the chrome is perfect, although there is some seperation.. along the edges in a few places..

He also did the starter motor cover, and the clutch cable cover..

Not true. Cherry bomb has them chromed and there are no problems She has beautiful chrome, but I bought her that way.
