Pacifico vs Vetter Fairing Mounts

No pics, but they're pretty easy to tell apart. The Pacifico has a spot to put a radio and speakers, lockable storage covers on both sides, and a 12-wire plug at the ID plate. They also only came in a square-headlight version. The Pacifico was only used for '78 and '79; after that, Vetter furnished the 'Yamaha' fairings. The bottom edge of the windshield is shaped different too; the Pacifico is straight, the Vetter has a curved cut-out for the headlight.

The Vetter fairing needed a separate housing for a radio, the left cover was vinyl and snapped on, and only had a 9-wire plug.

Do you know what bike that Vetter mount came off?

I have a Vetter mount that looks just like that. However, it will not fit my 79 xs11 standard. Where the mount bolts to the frame (U bolts i believe) my xs has bolts right on the frame so it would not need U bolts to hold it on. The problem is I need another whole right in between the two on the mount that are for the U bolts. And the downtube flats dont quite match up perfectly, the angle is just a bit off.

I'm curious as I'm making a trip to the salvage yard here in MN tomorrow.

If you're refering the first pic I posted, those are both XS mounts. Most of the Vetter mounts looked pretty much the same, with only a few (Goldwing mounts in particular) looking much different. The two larger inside holes on the pictured mount line up with the threaded holes in the frame downtubes, with a couple of hose clamps used to clamp the lower tabs to the frame. The angle between the mounting surface for the fairing and the frame should be 62 degrees, and the distance between the front bolt holes for the fairing and where the mount contacts the frame should be 5". If these two dimensions are right, you could drill the frame mounting holes, then cut off/reposition/reweld the lower tabs to fit your bike.

If your talking about the bolts for the horn, you take those out, and the mount bolts up to those and whatever is bolted to that location bolts to the mount instead. Then the angle to the downtubes should be correct. There are no u-bolts involved, just two normal bolts into the bolt holes in the frame of the XS there at the top.
