Master Cylinder

Does anyone know if the Front Master Cylinder rebuild kit is the same across all XS1100. I have a 1979 XS1100 Midnight Special master cylinder. I know that they went to the rear brake operating the front left caliper as well as the rear brake on this model. I need to know if they change the front master cylinder as well.

I have an xj1100 which I modifed for the front lever applies both front brake calipers and the back brake only applies the back brake and I need a Master Cylinder capable of applying both front brakes. I have a Master Cylinder from a 1979 xs1100 Midnight Special, I just don't want to rebuild it if it is too small to do the job.

With the exception on the '81 XS11 MNS (and XJ), the master cylinders are all functionally the same. Now, there's no such thing as a '79 MNS ('80-81 only) so you might want to check a little closer. All dual-disc front master cylinders use an 11/16" bore (and will be so marked in the casting) and have a plastic reservoir. If that's what you have, the XS kit will work.

not all, my 81R has the 5/8 bore alloy master cylinder that
works both front callipers, i think its the same as the midnights
and xj tho just not linked. (tho not relevant to the us bikes
just some info u might like to know)
