  • finally found it

i have been a member of this forum for a number of years (long enough to not be sure how long) and i finally found an xs11 and brought her home with me. it was a happy day saturday.

'79 with 18000 miles on her, needs some brake work, probably new plugs/wires/boots, and the carb boots need replaced, along with other regular maintenance but she looks very nice.

gonna take her back to the stock look with the handlebars, and seat, nothing to exciting for a lot of you it should be a fun bike to run around on.

(on that note, looking for a rear grab bar, seat, handlebars and kick start for a 79 special, in good cosmetic condition. let me know if you have any of those parts)

heres a pic, looking forward to the first ride

Very nice looking bike! You may find the kicker is still tucked underneath around the bottom of the air box or so. Never owned one with it, so not certain where it is.

nah, you can see where it attaches, roughly the same place as my 81 850. i think your xs750 would have one there too. looks like the po took some parts off to save on weight i would assume.

          Hi Nick,
Nah, the all the XS models except the 1100 have a folding kicker that's permanently bolted to the splineshaft that sticks out of the transmission.
The XS11 (up to 1979 models) have a plastic sleeve over the splines that gets pulled off to allow the emergency kicker that lives behind one of the side panels to be put on there for use.
          Daft, right?
1980 & newer XS11s have writing around a plastic plug in the hole where the spline used to be that says "kickstarter" but it's a lie.

It's bolted to the frame by a wing nut right below the right side cover at the.back corner of the engine. I didn't think I had one right away either.
