I wouldn't monkey with the idle screw unless you are certain that the bluing occurred with the idle circuit, i.e. below 3000 rpms. And you really should first check the vacuum synch between the carbies.

Opinions differ on how far to start them but typically anywhere form 1-1/2 turns to 2 turns will work well on nice clean carbs. It is just a starting point, to get the bike to start and run so you can warm it up and then synch and tune.Life is what happens while your planning everything else!

For now, just leave them as they are. Sync the carbs, then check out the "colortune by ear' procedure. Basically, you start with sync'd carbs, running at a very low idle. Start with any mixture screw, let's say #1. Back it out while listening for any minute change in idle speed and smoothness. IF nothing happens by the time you're backed out 2 or 3 turns, turn it in to where you started, and then very gently turn it in more, a bit at a time, again listening for that sweet spot. Once you've found and slightly overshot the sweet spot, bring it back, and move on to the next screw. Get all four screws done, resync, then have another go through the screws. One last quick check on the sync, and you should be ready to have your arms pulled out of their sockets.Ken Talbot
