Front and rear do not interchange on the specials. The '79 and '89 special brakes will interchange for tge same position on the bike. Rear brake will interchange on any year/model XS11Nathan

Why is that Nate? The bolt pattern is the same. and for the slotted disc it is the same for both right side disc. I am almost certain that any disc from any XS11 will bolt right up and work just fine in any position on any year or model XS11. In fact I am not so sure I see any issue with swapping right and left, save appearance, on the slotted rotors.Life is what happens while your planning everything else!

Hi DGXSER,
The fact that Yamaha clearly marks them L or R would make me reluctant to swap sides.

all XS11 brake disks and the front disks from a '77 or newer XS650 will swap between bikes and work OK.
'80 XS11 Special disks are slotted so that they self-clean.
FWIW, I reckon the brake pads can't tell which way the slots are raked so you can use a right slotted caliper on the left front and only your aesthetic sense will be bothered by doing so.
The front brake calipers on '79 & '80 Specials are identical.
Note that they are handed R & L and WON'T swap side to side.Fred Hill, S'toon
