  • Where to purchase bigger jets for my '78?

How do I go about buying larger jets for my '78 XS11? Can I just hop on ebay and search for Mikuni jets? Im looking at 145 mains and 45 pilots. (4 into 1 exhaust and its waay too lean).

    Any advice?

    Thanks!

MIKE'S XS has those jets at $6.50 a pair.

MOTORCYCLECARBS.COM has what you need for sure.

    That will get you started.

Hmm.. MIKESXS only has XS650 80-84 jets? DO you know if they will work in my '78 1100?

Never mind.. Seaching worked! I guess the 145s will fit.

Thanks for the info on the sites. Whipping out the old VISA ASAP.

        80-84 XS650's have BS34 carburetors like the XS1100. Earlier XS650's have BS38 carburetors, unlike the XS11.

I gave you the second link because there shouldn't be any guessing there.

You can also just go down to your local motorcycle shop. I found my jets at a suzuki shop. They were cheaper then online when you add S & H. Just take in the old ones to match up.

The only local motorcycle shop here is a mega Honda, Suzuki, Yamaha, etc. dealer who offered to sell me jets for my '80 CB650 for $55 each (x4).

I ordered the following from mikesxs based on further info I have read on here somewhere..

              #145 Main Jet - Large Round Type - N100/604 Mikuni type - Fits:1980-84 Stock
XS650 Mikuni 34mm. CV carbs and aftermarket Mikuni TM 36-68 Flatslide carbs.
              Sold in 2's.

Not sure if I should have sprung for a set of 147.5s too or maybe 150s as ethanol gas is rampant in my area. (Engine needs more fuel with ethanol to prevent a too lean condition).

Kinda shocked that Mikes didn't offer priority US mail shipping. $10 UPS. Mail would have been about 2 bux for 4 small jets.

Oh well, beats the local dealer by a long shot! Hopefully when my replacement air-box intake boots arrive I can ditch these pods that the PO installed. I have them currently taped up with about .5 inch left at the top and it's still lean on the top with the 4 to 1 exhaust.

It's a project. At least it's been cheaper to work on than my Honda. lol The Hondas been assigned living-room duties anyway. Makes a nice centerpiece.

Alrighty. Called the local Mega powersports place today and asked for a set of large-round 147.5 jets. They can order them for $19.95 each.. BUT, the guy gave me another number of a local racing shop in town. They had my 147.5s in stock for a whopping 3.95 each.

Installed em, bench synced my carbs and installed some pod-lengtheners to keep the pods from blocking off the air jets as they were doing.

Top end is AWESOME. Bonus: the bike actually idles now. Still has a severe miss at idle (#3) is popping and spitting. Need to adjust a bit more.

Engine is cooling down with the 'ol box fan in the garage. Will pull the plugs and confirm enough gas is getting burned. At least I hope they are not still metal looking like before. gah.
