  • Saddle Bag Mounts

    What's a good universal saddle bag bracket for a 1979 XS1100 Special?

I'm looking at a pair of soft bags and don't want them torn up riding against the shocks.

    Any and all opinions welcomed.

Also, if I find a set of brackets, I'll most likely be selling the hard bags and trunk!

I made my own soft bag brackets. Just use some brake line so you can bend it. Flatten each end and drill a mount hole, and it should work fine. All you are doing is keeping the bag off the shocks.

I too made my own. I used 3/8" aluminum rod. Bent it to the shape I wanted. Used 3/8" stainless fuel clamps on the bottom and back side of the grab rail.

Before I bent the aluminum rod I used a old metal coat hanger as a prototype. Bent it to the shape I wanted then matched it with the aluminum rod. If you have a plumbers torch you can heat the aluminum rod so it bends easier.

Here are a couple of pics. Hope this helps you.
