  • Tensioner

I noticed an oil leak coming from the tensioner and it appeared that the bottom bolt was loose. I went to snug it up and the bolt just spins I guess the po had changed it with the wrong one. Does anyone know what size of bolt should be in there and how i should go about fixing it.

    Thanks in advance

The other option is the PO stripped the threads out of the hole. Hope not , but just pull the top one or at least loosen it and see if it is the same size, but follow the directions for removing the cam chain tensioner first (rotate engine to C mark on timing plate, have bike on centerstand.)

You may need either a helicoil or to drill and tap to the next size up. All depends on what you find.

I don't have a center stand on the bike but i do have a bike jack if that will work.

That will work. The point is to have the bike level when doing anything to the cam chain. It helps to keep the chain on the sprockets when working on it. Make sure you follow the procedure DGXSER mentions. This is a very common mistake some make that causes bent valves. There are no shortcuts to do the job properly. And here is another word of caution: do not attempt to rotate the crank with the cam chain tensioner removed or completely contracted even when the cam chain and sprockets are on (like during reassembly, DAMHIK

IIRC, the correct size for that bolt is an M6X1.25, I've fixed stripped out ones by tapping them out to 1/4-20 which is a tad larger bolt.
