  • Interesting plug wires

Pulled the tank off the F the other day and discovered that the plug wires have a connector between the coils and the caps. First time I have seen this. It almost looks like a splice, but are made by NGK. The plug caps themselves are NGKs. Has anyone else run across anything like that? Is it likely to cause problems by increasing resistance? If it isn't a problem it looks like it would make changing the coils to a higher output set easier.

If it doesn't look similar to this its wrong.

Either way you would still be better off replacing the whole wire instead of just some of it. Be glad your PO did a better job splicing wires than mine did. I had wood screws screwed into the wire core with the screw heads cut off and electrical tape over the splice.

There is a splice kit out there to let you splice new wire on. I don't know how well it works to fix old tired wires. It might do the trick for the wires since that seems to be the insulation breaks down and leaks generally.

          Wire Splice

That's the one I have. I guess the PO wanted or needed new plug caps and thats how he did it. Thanks Nate.

Sometimes I wonder if a thread of some of the crazier things that PO's have done to their bikes ought to be started. Putting a screw in the plug wire qualifies as thinking outside the box.

I was hoping I could find those pictures I took of the wires after I took them off but I cant seem to find them. If I find them I will post them again.

And thanks to whichever of you mods fixed my link, don't know why the www. part didn't show up when I first copied it.

I have splices in the plug wires on my '70 Honda that have been there over 30 years. They still work fine.
