I was wondering if there is any company's that make other seats for a 81 standard model

Do you have a good seat pan? If so, you have many options. If not, not so much.

As to what is being eluded to.....if you have a good pan any decent upholstery place could make whatever you want, for a price that is.

What kind of seat are you looking for?

Not anymore... there used to be aftermarket seats available for these bikes, but they're all long discontinued. You can get reproduction covers if your pan and foam are good, and there's a vendor in England selling complete reproduction '78-79 standard seats, but those won't fit any other models without mods to either the seat or the bike. You'll have to search the used market these days...

Check the 'for sale' forum, or start watching eBay.

And if you have a good seat pan saddlemens makes touring kits that include foam and covers for the stock seat pans for most if not all the XS11 models. As a matter of fact, one of them is on the list of upgrades for my bike.

            Hi halfbreed and welcome,
like the other guys said, not any more, no.
Certainly custom seat guys can put a new cover & foam on an existing good seat pan.
Or if your pan has rusted into iron lace you can still use it as a built-in former to lay up a fiberglass seat pan onto and take that to the upholsterer.
Or search the list's photos to see what others have done to make solo seats.
Whatever you do, I don't see you finding a simple bolt-on fix; it's gonna take work.

Here's a link to the UK vendor. The seat fits E and F standard models. Somehow, I suspect that your bike won't be one of these, with it being in the USA? I have one of these seats on my bike and it's a very good seat....

There is a new place out of Vietnam that makes seats for them. I'll see if i can find them again. The seats look good, but who knows, and they are costly with the shipping.

that seat looks like an 81 special seat

the big rise under the tail is where the taillight lived on the special - on the standard it lived on the fender.

They posted a pic of the bottom in the listing, and if that's not hand formed I'll eat it. I'm not saying that's a bad thing, but it does limit the thickness of the metal they can use. But the OEM seat pans were made with pretty thin gauge too so it's probably not an issue. Do note that they don't appear to furnish the rubber bumpers to sit on the frame, so those would have to be gotten off a stock seat..
