  • Rear Brake Question

I looked and found two other threads that referenced swapping the rear caliper with one from a xs750/850. I seemed to have broken off a bleed screw in my caliper and need a replacement and very tight on cash and found one for the 750 on ebay 21 shipped. I just need a confirmation that these will swap before I pull the trigger to buy another.

    Thanks!

      Part Number

The part numbers do not match, but I had seen that they swapped anyhow. That is an awesome tool!

Whole caliper, the bleed screw got frozen in the caliper and then broke off when I tried to take it out. Tried an easy out and broke it, tried to drill, but thanks to the easy out, broke a couple bits.

The XS650 front calipers are the same as the rear on the XS11. The bleed screw may be positioned differently.

You need a rear caliper; while Yamaha used the same casting for both front/rear calipers on the XS11 standards, rear Specials and fronts on the 650, once machined they're location-specific. The bleeder screws are in different places and will prove to be very hard to bleed all the air out if put in the wrong place...

                    broken bleed nipple

I had one of these on my XJ900N. Some cooke had tightened it too much and left exposed to salt air. Broke it off. Took to so called local "mechanic" who tried to just drill it out and got it crooked. Then I took caliper to a proper brake specialist and they put it in a jig, redrilled it, inserted thread insert and now good as new. Upshot - take caliper off and give it to the experts, as they have the gear and experience. Cheaper than replacement and you then know what you have got.
