  • tyre pressure

    G'day!

I've recently been given an '81 XS1.1 Sport (picture to be posted soon!)

The previous owner has thoughtfully removed many of the labels around the bike and I can't find the recommended tyre pressures.

If anyone has these specs (and any other helpfull *common knowledge* specs) please let me know.

    Thanks!

What we did on our racebikes (and I still do today) is inflate to get a 10% PSI increase from cold reading to warm readings.
For instance, if tire pressure is 35 PSI before your 1st ride of the day then when the tire is warmed up (5-10 miles) should read around 38 - 39 PSI.
When doing this also note what ambient temp. is and what kind of load you have. You don't have to get too exact on this (unless you want to). After awhile you'll know what to set them at for summer or winter, loaded or light, passenger or no.
Try starting at 35 PSI front and 38 PSI rear and go from there.
    Hope this helps

Yamaha recommends 36 front, 40 rear for high speed riding, also what Dunlop recommends my K491 Elites.

        Thanks Pat and Robert!

Just in time too, I've been running 30+30 just to be safe but we're riding about 700Km today in 25DegC and the only thing more exausting than riding on 'flat' tyres is riding cold... This is gonna be a fun ride!

We're just coming into summer in Australia (mid spring) and the old girl fits nice, if she doesn't give me too much trouble on this ride I can see myself sending postcards back to the wife and kids hehehe.

Ride safe, have fun, and God Bless!
