I got the 1978 xs1100 standard (name is Flicker & Flash) to fire up and run tonight after 3 weeks of work. Thanks to Wingnut (Cousin) for coming down to Florida and helping out, plus the many phone calls and questions. So to date we have rebuilt the carbs including two new floats and a rebuild kit. Repaired the brakes, New TCI unit, cut the plug wires out of the coils with a dremel tool and replaced with new wire, one coil was bad and all 4 wires were broken or brittle. So this last week I have been trying to start the old girl and all I did was awake the dead with backfires and flames, hence the name Flicker & Flash. Found out it helps to have the coils and wires going to the correct spark plugs.

Anyway progress is being made. Next I'll start on the tank and petcocks. and run her around the block with a temp tank to see how she runs.

That's a satisfying sound, isn't it? I always have a fire extinguisher handy when I'm doing first start. Never needed it and hope I never do. Good on ya for persevering.

No pics? I love bike porn of any kind, parts, pieces, whatever ya got...
