  • Yay! Its running!

Here is my 79 special I freshly picked up from the shop after carb sync.
Its buddy is my 82 xj750 daily rider.
Still need to finish the windjammer 4 stuff and the whole thing needs paint one day, but Im excited to have gotten to ride it in good functioning order!
Thanks to all who chimed in with assistance during my learning curve. I know its frustrating to deal with "us" but it is appreciated.

The cat is an add-on I picked up so the muffler doesn't scrape the ground.

Of course those of US that can offer advice can only offer it cause some one else helped US to get past being one of Those US's. So it is simply repayment of a favor.

That is the best use of most cats I have heard of this side of China!! No Kat's included of course.

Awesome! I also got to ride mine today. Great feeling isn't it!
Where did you get your cat? Did the PO install it. Are they hard to find on ebay? Also it there a diffrence between a special cat and a standard? Or are they the same on them all?

        Thanks.
As for the Cat(tm), I installed it myself. It was a direct bolt on modification, although you've got to adjust them properly to really get them to purr.
This model is the Special model. My wife has a standard but hasn't modified her Boulevard C50 with it yet.

The Special cat requires a little attention an periodically leaks. Luckily its mostly automatic and you dont have to clean the spooge hole.

The Standard cat requires ALOT of work. It doesnt function in bad weather and good weather it can be fickle. The spooge hole is a maintenance nightmare.
Both versions of cat (tm) are hard to find on fleabay but occasionally a PO will let one go.
Personally I would rather have the Mutt(c) mod.

The up side is that cats are easy to find, and cheap too. Unfortunately, it can be rather confusing trying to sort out which cat goes with which bike. Your VIN can help you with some of them, and luckily many are interchangeable, but some are rather difficult to nail down.

Also, some will have different requirements based on where you live:
If you live in Maine, you must of course use a Maine Coon.
A Devon Rex can only be used in England (though it's not the only breed that can be used there).
If you live in Georgia, you must use a Savannah.
Siamese are used exclusively in Thailand.

          Midnight Specials are easy...black cat.

            you guys are too much..

I kept thinking you were talking about some kind of catalytic convertor and finally went back to first pic and saw the "cat". GOOD CAMO!

I must have used the wrong cat for my area. Everytime I go into a hard leaning turn the darn thing would move and I would still scrap the muffler.

                awesome thread

Great work boys - what a laugh! I can't get any of those mods - I have a lab, that won't allow it. I think it has to do with the border crossing & customs. - Dan

I did the dual cat mod, upper and lower. Didn't seem to help much with anything though. It did give me an excuse to get the seat recovered though.

And if the cats don't work, you could have genuine cat akin on the seat.....
