Yeah, your logic makes total sense.

Got a email into a tire shop I like, asking if a 130/90-16 front ME880 would be ok. I am not clear on the differences between a front and rear ME880. Tread looks the same.

EDIT: ok, no running a front on the rear. I've been educated!

For what it's worth, Dunlop lists this size (it's actually a 'Harley' size) and specs out the width at 5.51"... so it won't fit without mods.
Fast, Cheap, Reliable... Pick any two

      '78E ???? owner - Modder project FJ forks, 4-piston calipers F/R, 160/80-16 rear tire
      '82 XJ rebuild project
      '80SG restified, red SOLD
      '79F parts...
      '81H more parts...

      '82 XL1000 w/1450cc Buell, Baker 6-speed, in-progress project
Cage: '13 Mustang GT/CS with a few 'custom' touches
      Yep, can't leave nuthin' alone...

Oh! Hadn't thought of looking it up through another manufacturer. DUH. "Harley" size makes sense, it's a local harley shop that went out of business and is auctioning off their small inventory at a big auction house I keep an eye on.

Looks like she'll be getting a D401 front and a K591 rear. Didn't really want Dunlops, but for her first bike that we'll probably only keep a year, they'll work.

Just so you know, I DO run the 140 on the rear of my '80 MNS. IF I put the pressure up above 40PSI, it will rub the swingarm. Other than that, I can JUST get a business card between the tire and swingarm.
The 85 is the aspect ratio, and the 140 is the tire width. Going from a 90 to 85 on the aspect ratio will NOT make the tire any wider! If you can get a set of calipers over the tire you want, you should be able to see if it will fit.
PS, I'm running an E3 Dunlop blackwall on the MNS.

A business card?? Dang, that doesn't leave much (aka, no) room for flex!! Thanks for posting.

HA! Moot point. The bids on the Dunlops that I know will fit have surpassed what I'm willing to pay. Must be the "Harley Davidson" badge on the tires.
