  • awesome 41 mpg!!!

Just got done screaming up and down richard russel pkwy and wolf pen gap. With my new metzler tires me880 front me 88 back.
I rode 145 miles from 10 am this morning until 3.
I got 41 mpg . I filled up after I got back. Interestingly I bought gas at the same station earlier this week. Riding to and from work I got just over 38 mpg.
Makes no sense??? I ride super hard on the mountains since I got the gold valve emulators, to keep it handling I leave it in 2nd or 3rd and keep the rpms screaming between4 and 6 thousand. The sound is incredible and its fun too!!

Well the zrx carbs are leaner thanthe stock ones. I had140 mains in my old carbs. I rode really really hard to day and the motor in this thing is a beast! I would have thought I would have got crappy gas mileage since I was reving so high. But I can't complain 41 mpg is great!!!

Makes sense. Shorter riding, even of the same style will get a little lower mileage. I do pretty much the same riding style, same type of roads riding to work, and when I do my weekend rides. If I do all the work riding on a tank, I get about 29 or 30, if I do about 50% the same road type and riding type but the bike is fully warmed up and even being pushed harder, I get 33 to 34 overall. If I get out into the twisties, I get a pretty solid 37 to 38 before the FD swap, and haven't done any riding like that since so I don't know yet, I'll find out when the weather gets better.

So, the higher the portion of the riding is with the bike not fully warmed up, the lower the mileage will be, the more of it the higher. The less of it spend starting from a stop, the better you will do as well.

Well I ride 17 miles to work one way and there are a few curves but nothing like wolfpen gap and I. Typically don't. Get above 6 riding to work. Mostly it staysat 4. There are 3 stop signs an 2 redlights for the ride to work. I mostly sta close to 6 riding in the mountains and I got up to 8 some but mostly 6

              38mpg

I was getting 30-35 mpg toward the end of last year on average. and the last two fillups this season were 38 MPG. I'm really excited about whatever happened over the winter, (magic working knomes prolly got into my engine). More likely I have been taking advantage of some longer riding days and have been excited it's finnally warm. either way I never did get over 35mpg last year and this year is looking good for me and my XS.

                lucky to get 22mpg

But most of my riding is short and in town AND two-up. I know part is tuning and mostly riding conditions, but I hope going to pods and retuning will help.

I once rode from Cape Flattery to Port Angeles WA on a very twisty road, 2nd & 3rd gear mostly, 4-6000 rpm, and got 40. I'd been pulling 35-36 on the highway on the way up there. Really surprised me. No problem believing your story, but explanations are wanting.
