  • Vetter trunk latch

Since I had a perfectly good Vetter trunk just sitting in the shed, and a perfectly good XS11 with Vetter bags on it, I decided to turn my ride into a full bagger. I painted up the side panels and top to match Incubus' already awesome colors, and got it all cleaned up and ready to mount. Then I got to the latch.

For some reason that has been lost in my demented past, when I removed this trunk from its last posting I thought it would be a good idea to remove the latch and take it apart. This I did with impressive effectiveness. Now I have a bunch of parts and not idea one about how they all fit together or, perhaps more importantly, how they ever held a trunk closed. From what I can see, it cannot work anymore than a bumblebee can fly (according to the laws of aerodynamics, anyway).

It occurred to me, though, that perhaps someone has a working Vetter trunk latch and could maybe shoot me a picture of how all of these seemingly unrelated parts fit together.

I am thinking it must involve magic, somehow.

    TIA.

Never mind. Figured it out. The problem was I had a big gnarly black piece that was in with the latch parts and it did not seem to go with anything. That was cuz it didn't go with anything. I seem to remember puzzling over that thing last time and deciding it wandered in from another latch somewhere.

I don't know if it's right, but it works...

Ok, I was about to go out and take a pic of mine and post it but if you got it working I won't bother. If you find you need a pic of any part of that though, let me know, I have that whole setup working on there and have put over 30,000 miles on the bike with it on there.

Thanks, Cy. I've had the Vetter saddlebags on for several months and I love the cargo capacity it gives me. I could probably go without the trunk, but I already had it and SWMBO likes the idea of a real backrest for when we ride two up. I also kinda like the idea of being able to pack almost all of my worldly goods onto the bike and ride off into the sunset, if I feel so inclined....

Yeah, I like that I can get almost $200 of groceries into the trunk and bags with a little bit of work (or maybe I don't like it, depending on how you look at it ). But yes, I like the storage space and the ability to carry a LOT of stuff, with it protected from the elements.
