    throttle cable maintenance

my throttle cable starts to get pretty sticky when it gets below about 40 degrees. Is there anything I can do for this besides replacement?

Have you tried lubing it? If it only happens when it is cold, then perhaps you have some moisture in there that is starting to freeze? I fabricated a funnel from cardboard and taped it around the end of my cable, and then hung the cable up. Kept pouring 10w oil into it until it ran out the other end.

A cable lube tool from partsnmore is only $4.00, it works real good and is easy to use.
Here is the link for the tool:

I got a cable luber and never used it yet, I usually change all the cables out every 4-5 years at the most anyway, BROKEN CABLES SUCK! Truer words have never been posted here. For the $10 a cable costs, it is worth it for the piece of mind.

I've had one of those cable lubers for years and they work great! Look at local bike shops too, cause the freight is more than the part (possibly)

Just had a particularly humiliating drama with the throttle cable a few days ago. Did the big show-off act and passed six cars in one hit - got level with car number 6 and the #*#* cable snapped. Pulled the dark visor down low as all the cars re-passed on the inside. Had to rig up some string to get home.
