    DGXSR & Bug;

    That wire is part of the starter motor lead, so I'm guessing he used the one from the '78 motor.

      While I was not the one who did the motor swap DAVNICI is right. I took the side cover off my 79SF that was in storage and it is the same. The wiring diagram was of some use, but the 81 MNS seems to have some of it's own peculiarities. The wire I was asking about was from the starter from the 79 SF the motor was from. I do not have the dead motor from the 81 as TC suggested so I can not transplant the pick up assembly. The starter works fine now as I found a dirty connection under the tank that was the fault. It seems to run fairly good and now I need to reset the carbs synch etc to get it right. I thank you all for the advice and will be back with more questions...TRUST ME on that.

        My 1980 1100G has the yellow/red wire from the TPI taped off. Am I reading here that it isnt necessary so I should leave it alone? Bike runs without it. Answer is obvious I suppose.

          Ditto on the green wire

          I have an 80SG motor in my MNS & the same green wire was sitting in limbo. I cut it short & sealed it off - all works fine. This is the 1st time someone brought it up though - I always wondered about that, now we all know - what a site - Dan
