  • Electrical.. but now its worse

    79 Special.
Ive been in the process of cleaning every electrical connection on the bike. The fuse panel is still tubes, but I ordered the blade kit from TC.
In my ventures I discovered the PO soldered (read: globbed solder onto) a wire that goes from the Red/Yellow FUSE wire at the box (looks like the one to the Dimmer Relay), and ran a wire to the front onto a blue wire(dark blue that seems to be to the meter assembly cluster for Neutral, high beam warning light, fuel light).
There are no other (*apparent) added wires.
I clipped it off in an effort to determine its effect and now signals dont blink at all. Left side goes bright and right is dim all the time.

Why oh why would someone hack in a wire like this?

What is this accomplishing or attempting to bypass?

Just guessing, but sounds like an attempt at an RLU bypass. You can look up the modification here.

I wouldn't change too much till the fuse block is replaced. The fuse and connection may look okay but the holders lose tension onto the fuse and you end up chasing your tail.

I would study the wire diagram and see what should be there and then see what is there and go from there.

Oregon cycle has replacement connectors and wiring diagrams on his site.

      H.t.h.
