  • What is still stock?

I bought this XS toward the end of last season when the final drive when out on my Shadow. (at least that was the excuse I gave my girlfriend). The bike was a steal for the money and I love riding this more than my Shadow 1100 anyday. She does also by the way.

anyway the PO told me he put a honda "front end" on it and I am trying to see if anyone can help identify by the pictures if anything is still stock here or what i have going on. I had some trouble with the headlight last year on my last two rides and spent a little bit of time this summer looking at wiring and it seemed stock, but obviously not the stock headlight.

I added the sissy bar and bag after I bought the bike. Girlfriend would not ride without one and I bought that one at a swap meet years ago, never really liked the way it looked with and other bike.

    thats a nice looking standard,
going by from what i can see,
the headlight and front blinkers have been changed,
the stock headlight and blinkers are rectangle,
cant see the headers very well, but the mufflers arent stock
    and the seat isnt either.
other than that, the rest looks pretty stock to me, others that
have a standard will chime in if ive missed anything.

I would even say the front end looks like its stock but I have not looked at many hind front ends so I have nothing to compare it to. But Pete has you covered on your question. And just to add, most likely the headlight and turn signals are from xs special.

The rear turn signals are off the bike right now. they were part of the license plate and just bolted on using the same bolts as the license plate.

I didn't like how far it stuck out and I'm pretty lucky to live in an area where the police are VERY motorcycle friendly. pretty much anywhere in a 25-50 miles radius you really have to be doing something stupid to get stopped.

I generally follow a no more than 10mph above in my truck but can get away with 15-20 on the bike depending on the area. (rural or city).

But anyway, since the lights just bolt right back on behind the license plate I can throw them back on for any trips i take.

The rear signals actually mount to the sides of the frame, just under the rear of the seat. What you have is probably the bracket that allows the installation of saddlebags, pushing the signals out the back. If you don't plan to use bags, you can just re-attach the signals to the stock mounting points, and you'll be all set. If you don't have all 4, the front one's won't flash anyway, unless the PO did something to change the flasher.

Looks like you need a set of mufflers on that thing as well!

LOL they actually never flashed, any of them. I was busy all winter buying a house and had to store all my bikes in my uncles garage so I didn't take the time to get a new flasher. I did find the fix on the forums here, just never went and got the flasher.

well actually the header kind of blew up on my first ride. I rode it from Fort Wayne, IN, to Bloomington, IN when I bought it. a nice 3 1/2 hours break in ride. Well as soon as I got on a familiar rode with no police i did a VERY hard start and found out that the clamps on the mufflers where not tight. Both slip on blew off and the right side header lost about 3-4 inches off the end. Looks to have been rusted and held on by the slip on. I have a friend who is going to weld up a pipe to extend the header so I can put the slip on back on and get some real clamps this time. I kinda like the 4 into 2 turnouts that were on there. It does sound kinda off right now and probably isn't doing the performance any good having one slip on and one straight header. but hell I want to ride it.

I'll mention that the seat looks remarkably like mine, and while I know mine has had the cover replaced, I don't know if it's still the stock foam or not.

That said, I'm going to be getting a saddlemen kit to replace the foam and cover before my LD riding season kicks in this summer (there is no non riding season here, but times of year when LD riding is good and when it's not).
