  • Venture/XS swap?

I have a shot at buying a '83 Venture Royale 1200, and it looks to be a parts bike.
My original intent was to buy the trunk and fit it to my '80 XS1100 G, and I'm guessing it will take some mods to do. Does anybody know what other parts, if any, are swapable/adaptable?
The owner supplied some good shots of the bags, and at 1st look, they look doable too.
But some more well-informed info would be greatly appreciated. Right now, I'm running stock bags, a Vetter fairing and 4-to-2 spagetti exhaust.
Many thanks for any info you can supply.

Jim, the Venture is a totally different bike than the XS. The "Venturer" is an XS type bike. You won't find many parts that are interchangeable. The trunk might fit on there though. There are many trunks listed on Ebay that would work on your 80G. You can use the auto adjust cam chain tensioner on the XS.

      Venture/XS swap

I thought I might catch you here Phil. Thanks for the reply.
The pics of the bags looked like they might be made to work too, and same for the trunk.
He wants $400 for the whole bike, but I'd have to check it out. Any advice on the idea of resurrecting this bike, or what problems to expect? You know I like dressers.

Jim, I've never worked on a Venture, but have heard they are a bit more difficult to work on than the XS. Yep, just about any bags and trunk could be made to work on any bike as long as you have some fabricating skills.

The Venture is well thought of as a touring bike, but is a water-cooled V-4 rather than an inline like the XS. Considerably more complicated, and lots of electronic gizmos that could be tough to troubleshoot if they don't work. Lots of plastic parts that don't age well too.

These seem to be suffering somewhat the same fate as the XS11; worth more as parts...

Most anything is worth more as parts, just so long as you don't figure in the cost of your time and effort.

              Venture/XS swap

Thanks guys. Yeah, the last thing I need is a 30 year old dresser full of electrical gremlins I have no clue about. The guy came down to 300, but I don't have the time or money to resurrect a bike like this.
I measured my bag mounts and luggage rack, so I think I'll try to score the trunk and bags and call it a day.
I appreciate all the feedback. It more or less confirms my own suspicions, but deterred me from collecting a large paperweight.

I have several XS11 and 1200 Ventures, they are completly different bikes. Enen lookek into putting the trunk and bags on my XJ11, I may do it someday. If you get the Venture I would be interested in some of the parts when your done. PM me if you are interested
Slow down and enjoy life. If you are in that much of a hurry, you should have left eariler.
