  • emblems wont fit

Okay what did i do this time. I have a set of emblems off what I believe is the tank off of a special but will not fit the holes in my 79 f model. 2LO-R and 2LO -L. are molded inside the emblems. the holes are spread too far on the emblems. Am I missing an adapter or something.

    hole spacing

The hole in the emblems are 4 inches from center to center. The screw holes on my bike are 4.25 center to center.

Get a couple of small brass woodscrews. Cut them off just below the tapered head and epoxy them into the screw holes. Then use some automotive trim tape to fasten the emblems to your tank.

Good question, must have been another one of those little differences between standards and specials somewhere along the way. The emblems I got from a boneyard and put on SWMBO's 'H with the cut-off brass screwheads and tape had 4.25 c-c mounting holes. Sometimes life's like that...

You can read this thread for information concerning replacement emblems. I bought a chrome set brand new for about $12 shipped.

If you measured the holes from center to center are they 4 or 4.25 inches apart
