Ive seen a 3 prong Flasher Relay that is "no-load". Are there advantages to that over 2 prong? I now know alittle about thermal vs. electronic flashers (thanks to you guys) and have seen Autozone flasher relays.

Is there a reason I should go with a 2 prong?
Looking at the wire diag. (for my sake) the flasher relay goes to FCU, handlebar switch, Fuse (and tied to the Light Checker Unit, tacho lights/front-rear stop switches).

I sure wish I could replace/modernize the electronics on this bike without my head exploding.

The 3rd prong on the stock flasher is for the flasher canceller which is unique to this set-up. Any other 3 prong flasher isn't going to work, just go with a 2 prong electronic flasher for leds.

You can fit an automotive 3-prong flasher, but you need to swap the yellow/green and brown/white wires at the flasher plug to make the turns flash. But it still won't let the canceller unit work, so there's no point to it...

          Hi Phil,
an automotive 3-prong will work but you have to cut and swap the socket wiring to power it up and it still won't self-cancel.
The 2-prong won't self-cancel either. It plugs into the 3-prong socket two ways.
          One way works, t'other don't.

              Hi Red,
the really cheap ones are load-dependent, the more powerful the bulbs, the quicker they flash. Also the load of LEDs is too low to work them at all.
A true electronic flasher will work at the same cadence no matter what load is on it.
(Mr Stupid once hooked up the black wire instead of the dark brown one. The electronic flasher still clicked at the same rate. Just 4 pulses then the fuse blew.)
So yeah, Autozone 2-prong but pay the extra $2 for the electronic one.

So to run LEDs in everything (but headlamp), I need a no-load flasher to replace the regular flasher. This will give me turn signal blinking but at the loss of auto-cancel (which I have decided isnt worth keeping).
Then the appropriate bulb "types" (1156, 1157...).
Does this mean the Flasher Cancelling Unit stays on the bike or it gets trashed?
I had my 79 standard for YEARS before I found out it SHOULD have self canceling turn signals. That feature STILL doesn't work...

Its no big deal once you become acustom to manually cancelling it. I have a few bikes like that and I rarely forget.
