Yes, it looks like a 79SF, no cut out for the tail light. That grab bar is definitely 79 Special only.

Nate, none of the Specials have a plastic tail cowling like the 78-79 Standards.

Not certain about the seat, but the grab bar could also be for the 80 standard. At least the pics I've seen for the 80 standard are that style.

Could be mistaken, but I thought the 80+ specials used the square grab bar.

Of course, that doesn't really help you on the seat. Just looking at the front of the seat and the hook, it doesn't look quite right to me, but I'll check in the morning when I have my seat off anyway.

They do. Mine is an 80, and that's what it has.

The 79 Special was a very unique beast in many ways, and the seat and grab bar were one of them. It is not like the 80 -81 models, nor any of the Standards.

The 80 and 81 specials are all but identical machines. With the exception of some cosmetic (as in paint and emblems) all but the ignition components are pretty much interchangable as in will bolt on and work just fine.

From the looks of that seat, its mounting hardware, and the grab rail, I'd agree with Phil, that definitely looks like a 79 XS11 Special seat and grab rail. And a mighty nice looking specimen at that!

Yeah the grab bar made me think SF.
It is a really nice seat.
Too bad I cannot use it.

80 standard for sure. They will fit a 79 sf special but there is a gap between the tank and seat. It's a good looking seat..

Out of curiosity;the grab bar on the G is it the same as the sf?

Nope... while you could swap the seat, the grab rail won't fit without alterations.
