Rear Shocks

Go a nice pair of shocks from E-bay. Was listed for a 78. Problem is they don't fit. Found a thread on modifying the spacing to fit on the frame. Have searched the threads but i am unable to find the thread again.
Any help would be great as i don't want to part with them.

How don't they fit? Too long? Wrong bushings?

Bushings too small. Not sure if you can drill out the rubber insert. Carn't find anywhere that has replacements.

I've pressed the bushings out of the factory shocks and pressed them into my replacement shocks before. Not to bad to do with a vise and a couple of correct sized sockets.

Yeah, what Phil said. I have shocks from a Harley on the back of my XS. Got them as takeoffs from a new cruiser whose owner wanted something else. Paid $10 for the pair. They work great. I have to push out the bushings and push in my XS bushings. I little lithium grease, a deep socket and my vise made it very easy.
