a poker run sounds like fun, I may throw my hat in at some point. these days, I spend my time on my Zuke, but am planning a frame up restoration/ cleanup and rewire this summer as time and money permit, hell, I might even bring "she who someday might be obeyed" (future SWMBO for those really tired or drunk and didn't get the reference). I'm only a couple hours outside ou bloomington, may haps I'll find out when Don is thinking to head over that way and take the long way around and ride over with him. that just might be fun, we'll just have to see about that. have a nice day and ride safe

Question? There is a keyed switch below the battery on the left side. Has wires running to starter area. What the heck is it?

The lock by the battery is to unlock and remove the left side cover. There are ground wires running near by.

That would be why the bottom tab is broken then.

That's usually what happens. You may be lucky and the tab may be in the lock still and you could fix it.

You can re-build the tab with superglue and baking soda. I know it sounds strange, but a drop of liquid (not gel) superglue, then dust it with baking soda, and it will harden almost instantly. Repeat over and over, until the "blob" is big enough. I let mine cure overnight, but I'm not sure if that was necessary. Then you can grind/sand the blob into the right shape. If you don't have some kind of latch on the bottom, you will most likely end up losing the cover on the freeway someday... Here's a picture of what it SHOULD look like, with dimensions:

Quite possibly. I didn't try that personally, but it might be worth a shot.

I tried that with mine, and had minimal success. I redid it with the super glue and that thing is as solid as a rock. Been almost a year at this point on the repair and it works better now than it did right after I did it.

If the super glue and baking soda bind that well to the plastic. And you have the piece to repair it. Then super glue should keep it in place. Maybe use the super glue and baking soda as a "weld" blob around the seam?

Matt, do not wait for me to go. I am back into the "you ARE going to sell that bike!" discussions.

I tried super glue to repair a crack in my side cover and it didn't hold. I don't know if baking soda helps make a stronger bond or not (have not tried it). to repair my posts (and the crack) I used JB Plastic Weld (putting broken off piece back on) been three months now and it seems to have worked so far. I don't think it will work to create a post though.

I would imagine that the baking soda would be much like the sand in tile grout. The is unaided grout for certain applications but the handed grout is much stronger and the best choice for most applications.
