I have a need for brake parts.
Are you guys buying from Yamaha or is there someone else?
I need master cylinder, wheel cylinder, hoses and pads.
Rear brake first which is currently sticking on.
I had the master cylinder apart today, the fluid is cruddy. I suspect the fluid in the wheel cylinder is making the piston drag. I can pry the pad away from the disc. It is worse in cold weather which we are currently having.
If it snows or is too cold tomorrow it will be parked.

Sounds like you have corrosion behind the piston seal in the caliper. This 'shrinks' the seal and prevents the piston from retracting when you release the brake. Sounds like it's past time to pull the brakes off and disassemble/clean everything. Pay particular attention to cleaning the groove the piston seal goes in.

At this point, all you can get are rebuild kits for the OEM parts. Partsnmore will be the best one-stop choice, as I don't think Mikes carries all the 'correct' parts. But you may not even need kits; unless the bike has high mileage, you can usually clean/reuse most of the seals. The one exception will be if your caliper pistons are rusty/pitted. Real light pitting, you can get away with using them, but if the pitting is extensive or deep, you should replace. If I were replacing pistons, I'd go for stainless steel units. There's several eBay sellers offering reproduction pistons for the various models now; that wasn't true a short while ago.

I'd get the calipers and the MC opened up, see what condition the parts are in, and determine what needs replaced.

Ebay has some good rebuild kits as well as PNM. Sometimes, depending what your looking for PNM is on back order for stuff.

Like Steve mentioned, clean it all up good, especially the groove the seal sits in, in the calipers. Strongly recommend completely disassembling the MC as well.

        Good luck.

              Rear brake

The caliper is apart and fixable. Some pitting as suspected.
Will look for parts Wednesday morning.
Next week I will remove the master cylinder and clean it.
Will remove all of the old brake fluid and blow out the lines.
In the meantime I drove my truck and it blew out the muffler.
$193 and it is back to silent running mode. " Greeny " is one year older than Yami, but the real oldy around here is my 1941 Ford 9N tractor.
And I have three sail boats all from the seventies, one bought new by me in 79.

I just bought rebuild kits from Parts n More. They seem to have a good selection of XS1100 stuff.

I visited the partsnmore site and they have what I need.
Meanwhile the local Yamaha shop has put them on order and they should arrive next week.
I will have to work on a shopping list and maybe order from partsnmore.
