  • Project XJ11 update or R666 Blasphemy?

So, rolled an 82 xj1100 into the shop that I got on trade for a guy looking for a guitar. Plain Jane, rusty, weathered example of a beat on XJ.

Started stripping her down to see what I was working with and as I stood back looking at her in all of her naked glory one day, she started to look a little differrent to me.

What would it look like if...?

    And, what about...?

    Or maybe...?

So the juices are flowing. So far, new 15 1/4" shocks to jack the back end up, complete 2002 r6 subframe and plastics, 79 xs1100g standard tank, xs1100 triple trees, new handlebars, new, lowered headlight ears, 4 into 1 exhaust...

Lots of molding, custom fiberglassing and welding to come. Keep watching to see how she comes along.

If you can do it well, go for it! If your going to get tired of it after you hack the thing to death, then dont do it and sell it to someone who is going to do something useful with it.

If you do continue you will have to mold something up so that the sidecover to tailsection transition isn't so awkward.

All for this! But IMO, the standard tank does not go with that tail. I think the stock XJ tank might actually go better. Whatever tank it gets, it needs to somehow mimic the lines of the tail or R6 tank to work.

Otherwise, this could look REALLY cool! Keep it up!

Its yours do what you want. Bet its kind of fun to mix and match like that. We did some of that with a xj650. Put the xs headlight bucket and turn signals on cause the originals looked like they belonged on a backhoe Kind of like the tail piece

I'm thinking it would be a mistake. I've had all kinds of big ideas when xs's have been setting ripped apart in my garage. They always look like they could be really cool when they are in pieces......but unless you are willing to spend the $$ and time to do it right,,,, I'm thinking it was a nice setup to begin with. Unless the changes you have in your mind's eye are really going to make it nice in the end, and you have a plan for fit and finish for the rest of the bike. If that's the case, then give it hell. It is fun to mess with them but in the end it will take alot to button it up. It never seems to end unless you sell the bike. Just ask T99......he's been working on his xs forever.

I think I see a cool custom every time I take a seat off of a special.

Hey looks good to me. I've thought of using a newer model fairing off of a sport bike myself. Make it the way YOU want it. THATS what puts the pride and pleasure into it.
