  • Carb Kits

Hey everyone, just for the record I tried searching for help and haven't found anything yet.
I have a 1979 XS1100 Special- SF? with 4-1 kerker exhaust and pod filters

I'm going to clean my carbs and re-jet it. So I need a carb kit. Just curious where the best place and cheapest place is to order one. Also some come with o-rings and jets, which I don't need the jets but some only come with gaskets, so whats the difference? I'm guessing I will need o-rings too? Also, is there a gasket where the diaphragm is? Thanks in advance for any help.

Georgefix on ebay. Reasonable and knows his stuff. Once you decide on a starting point for getting you can send him a message in ebay and he will put together a kit of the parts you want. As to the o-rings, if you have the early model carbs that came on the 79 then there are none. Also there is no gasket on the top. The diaphragm does the sealing.

Also, there is a getting chart somewhere to give you an idea as to a starting point with the jets for your setup. Might be in the tech tips but didn't look, maybe you can find it or someone else can get the link for you.

This is the key thing to check; do you have original carbs? Makes a big difference in the kits, so this needs to be verified. Lots of carb racks have been swapped over the years.

Easy to check; if you can see the idle screws (top front of the carb, exposed to view), those are the '78-79 type. If there's a cast 'tower' (maybe open on top, maybe with a plug in it), then that's the later '80-81 type. This also effects jetting (jetting follows the carbs, not the bike), so know what you have...

Well I'm not sure if I have original ones or not. I attached a couple pictures, hopefully you can help me identify them, also how do you know if the jets are stock or not? Is there a number on them? Thanks again for all the help

          Nevermind I guess I can't attach images.

To post pics you need to upload the pics to a site like photobucket and then post the img link they provide in your post here and the pic will show.

Yes the jets will have a little number stamped in them showing size.

                79/79

Those are 78- 79 carbs. If you are using aftermarket exhaust, you will need to rejet.

                  Yup, early model carbs.

now as for the pictures, if you put your mouse pointer over the pics there will be a list of 4 things that drops down under the pic. the 4th one down is labled IMG code, click on the box after that and it will copy the link needed for you. Then in your post just right click and select paste and the picture is now in the post like this

Foreda, do you know where that list for rejetting is? I can never seem find it and I am going to need it too, so I am curious.

Jetting recommendation thread. Remember, this is just a starting point/rough ballpark idea, you may need to make some adjustments after as well but this is a starting point to begin with.

IF you buy the kits from Georgefix, and tell him what main and pilot jets you think you need, he will include them instead of stock! Save you a little time and money, and with the jetting thread, should get you close.

Thanks everyone for the replies, with the aftermarket exhaust and pod filters I'm figuring I need a 147.5 main and 45 pilot. I'm contacting GeorgeFix right now about the kits, so I will see what kind of deal I can get on them.
