  • '79 XS1100 Sissy bar with Rack?

I am wondering if it is possible to remove the OEM grab bar and replace it with some sort of sissy bar with rack. I imagine my wife would be more willing for longer trips if she had a cushion to lean against. Any links, help, suggestions would be great!

On my '78 I have a rack/blackest and the grab bar is still there.

      Sissy Bar

Where did you get it and did you have to drill any new holes?

It was on the bike when I got it so I can't say. Does not seem like any of the holes on the rack were changed.

          Sissy Bar

Do you have any pictures of the bike with the sissy bar on it? I am needing some ideas so I can try and find one that is a universal fit.

Mine has the grab bar removed, but I have a Vetter Tailtrunk, which also gives the backrest as well. I think it interfered with the Vetter Saddlebag mounts rather than the trunk/luggage rack though.

This is as best I have right now. Bike is in pieces so I can't get any good ones.

                  Sissy Bar

                  Nate,

That is exactly what I need. I am getting ready to order a new seat from Saddlemans(xy156). With the new seat and hopefully a new backrest, riding season will be a lot more comfortable!

I will say that the grab bar does at times (especially if someone is sitting pillon) touch the rack but its not a big deal.

There are a few different styles out there that fit the 79's, but seem to be hard to find.
This one is on one of my 79 specials.

                      good luck...

                        sissy bar

This might be too late, but here goes. Luggage racks with sissy bars for your bike come up on EBAY frequently. They usually go for between $25 to $100.

If you didn't order your new seat yet, these also are frequently on EBAY. Hope this helps.
