  • SS Brake Lines for LH (Midnight Special)?

    Hey folks,

I'm sorry if this has been covered but my searches didn't give me what I was looking for.

I am interested in replacing the stock rubber brake lines on my 1981 M.S., with stainless steel upgrades. For now I would like to retain the factory linked braking system as it works perfectly (as does everything else on the old hot rod), but I have not had any luck identifying a SS brake hose kit for the LH model. I did see reference to Chacal at XJBikes and I think an XJ1100 kit might work but when I looked up and compared the brake hose part #'s on www.yamaha-motor.com I noticed that the part #'s were different between the 81 LH and the 82 XJ for the two hoses that go to the left and right front calipers.

I know that I can take the hoses off my bike and have new SS lines made by a custom vendor. I've done that in the past and will do it again if needed but I would prefer for now to obtain an off the shelf solution if it is available.

So, how about it. Anyone have any luck with off the shelf stainless steel brake lines for their Midnight Special with linked brakes? Any other helpful comments appreciated as well.

    Avery

I have not yet found a Kit anywhere to fit the LH. If you do find one let me know because I am also soon in need of them. I planned on going back to http://cyclebrakes.com as they have served me very well in the past. A bit more money than some but the service and quality of lines are great. They will custom make any lines you or I want.

I believe that kit will work. XJ and xs lh both have the linked brakes, so they are the same. CatatonicBug used Chacal's setup on his bike without complaints. Ask him for sure though.

The link in my signature will take you directly to the page where Chacal sells a setup that is a PERFECT fit for the LH. They come with all the rubber mounting dampers already installed, and are perfectly twisted and rotated to fit. I got the black lines, but he sells them in red, clear and blue as well.

Thanks to all for the help!

Hey 'Bug. Glad to hear that the XJ1100 lines from Chacal fit without problems. Also, how did you order your lines from Chacal? I see the part #'s and price listings on the link you referenced (thanks) but I don't see a recommended way to contact him or place orders. Probably right in front of me but was hoping that you could save me a little search time. Thanks again!
