  • Front Turn Signals?

Anyone know if the front turn signals off a '77 650 month the same as the 1100 specials do? Do they have the same square part that goes into the square hole on the ears and bucket?

    Hey Nate,

I didn't see anybody reply, but the 650 uses some special egg shaped type washers to mount...see the exploded view below from the official Yamaha site:

The headlight bucket still has the square holes, but they use grommets with round inner area inside the square holes!

Can't remember for sure but I think when I had my 400 special they mounted the same as the 1100 special.

Will have to look into it. Or maybe Cy can answer, he has a 400.

But mines a standard and besides, with it coming with the fairing on it I've never even seen the headlight bucket. I think the turns on the front are square where they go into the headlight bucket, but it's been a while. I'd have to go out there and check. If you can't find out from anybody, let me know and I'll pull the headlight and look. I know that the rears are different, and I think the 400 is different than the 650. Of course my goal is to have at least 1 of each (got the bottom and top so far, just need to fill in with a 650, 750 and 850).

Good luck with getting one of each, you need to get one of all the XJ's as well and really make a complete set!

                Hey Nate,

Here's the XS400SG, and it does use the same square based washers as ours..see part #7. So...it's not the actual Shaft, but the washer base that fits into the grommet...and there's a notch in the groove around the square washer, and a notch on the base of the signal post that merges with it, so that it helps to orient the flasher lens forward and helps prevent it from rotating, hence the square hole...it also doesn't allow rotating, vs. just a round grommet and washer.

No No No. One each of the 1980 XS models, actually I was originally thinking the G model of each (I have an XS400G and 1100G), which would mean the G model of the other three. I like standards so I'm not all the much in to specials.
