  • 3rd gear problem

Does anyone know what I can do to fix 3rd gear jumping. I fixed second gear summer of 09 and now 3rd gear is doing the same thing but if I baby it it doesnt jump but if I fast throttle it, IT JUMPS. I looked all over on this site but nothing on 3rd gear issue.

From my understanding the "second gear problem" is just sort of a generic term for that type of gear problem. It usually starts in second gear (hence the name) but it happens in the other gears as well. So it its the same symptoms, its the same fix just a different gear. Most people backcut all the gears that they pull out anyways.

I would inspect the gears you already back-cut, and only re-cut IF they needed it. Your other option is to look for a "spare" trans, rework ALL the gears and then install it. All you should need is the bottom shaft with the sliders.

Mine started out with 3rd gear. I did the same thing and only fixed that one gear the first time. I didn't do it very well, and had to go back in and re-do it. Then 2nd gear died, and I went back in and did that one and all all the others. That was 2 years ago, and it's been fine since.
