No washer and spring in oil filter housing??

    Yeah Topcat, that was what I was thinking. I did it yesterday. I didn't see anything bad, but I dressed them up anyway. Grinding the slots in 1st gear was the worst part. With the blind holes, you can't see how well the dogs from 4rth are meshing. I'll just keep my fingers crossed that it performs well when the nicer weather gets here.

      Maybe I am misunderstanding what your saying but are you dremeling them INSIDE the bike?!

        No. What I mean is, the slots in first gear don't go all the way through the gear, so you can't look through the slot from the back side to see how well the fourth gear dogs mesh. When grinding the slots in 2nd, you could mesh the 5th gear dogs int the slots and look at the fit in the back side of 2nd.
        I hope I explained that clearly enough.

            I understand some use playdough or something similar to insure the gears mesh the same. It's just a matter of putting something on the dogs that will show if they are all touching really.

              I was going to mention that if this is the first oil change, the PO may have used really slick oil and the slipping clutch could look like gear problems. But since you're in there anyway, never mind. I just wanted to continue in my goal of becoming a guru without ever offering advice that might really help someone.
