    Which manual

I spent time watching on ebay for 6 days and 36.00 later to get my motorhead a geniune Yamaha XS1100 1978-1980 factory service manual.

But everytime we ask a mechanical question it seems everyone refers to Clymer.s Manaul.

What the !!!!is up with that?

It Clymer's more explicit or what?
I know I am the dumb blonde, but factory should be better even if it did cost me 36.00 on ebay???Makes sense to me, so why Clymer's, is it cheaper?

Life is a Harley reality is an XS1100!!! just kidding

    79XS100SF tearing it down now

And who knows what else, we can no longer put any cars in our two car garage. Just XS1100 and parts and parts and parts

The Clymer's manual looks like it got most of it's material out of the Yamaha factory manual so they are almost the same. Clymer's has some more material for beginners but otherwise is similar. The Clymers is available at any bike shop so more people will tend to have it than the more expensive factory manual.

I was lucky when I bought my bike, I got a factory service manual with it. Orginal Yamaha covering 79-81. I think I am going to see what it will take to get complete copies made and bound. Seems these are a hot item. I know it has bailed me out many times. I wonder in the copyright has run out?
      When a 10 isn't enough, get a 11. 80g Hardbagger

The clymer manual is a loose combination of all of the factory manuals covering all models. The bummer is that in some cases, the publishers at clymer forgot to mention the subtle differences between the special and standard, but if you know what your looking at it is easy to reconcile. I use a factory manual as it is very model specific and a bit more straightfoward, they're just harder to come by.

The Clymer's is better then nothingm, but it does have some mistakes in it. The factory manual is the best choice in my opinion, followed by Haynes, and then Clymer.

Another option would be list member Rob Mills. He has compiled quite an extensive collection of manuals, parts lists, and a host of other usefull information on a CD.
