  • Will 750 Special rear shocks fit 1100 Special?

    Hey guys,

I was wondering if a set of rear shocks off a 79 xs750 special would fit the same mounts as my 79 xs1100 special? Any incite would be awesome.

    Thanks in advance,
    Michael

The shocks fit the same for the XS650, XS750, XS850, and XS1100 Specials. You should expect the spring rates to be different as there is 100 pounds more weight in the XS1100 than the XS650.

    The answer is yes....and no.

Is that an acceptable difference? I'm not sure how much that would affect the ride.

Ride would be much softer and you would bottom out much sooner with 750 shocks.

I'm assuming a set of a 1980 xs1100 would be a better bet then. Would I have any trouble getting these off a standard and fitting them to a 79 special?

Tinman, those look awesome, and they won't have any problem with the weight of the 1100? Do you ride with a set of these guys?

I can't use the typical quote balloon because I'm working in Jamaica and the site is unavailable here, so I'm using a proxy server.

The first large displacement 4 stroke Yamaha was the XS-1 for 1970. It evolved into the XS650. The XS-1 shocks on Mike's XS site are for restoration. They are shrouded as original and painted. The XS-1 was green and the 1971 XS-1B was gold. They are also 650 cc and those shocks will probably mount up on the XS1100.

I have a late XS650 and it weighs about 475 lbs dry. That is considerably less than the XS11.

Parts-N-More also sells inexpensive shocks and it's entirely possible that the spring rate will be more appropriate for the bike. www.partsnmore.com

I don't use them but if I need shocks I will buy them. I know a few people that do and I have put them on a few bikes XS1100's and everyone is very happy with them . No issues that I have heard and I have asked.

Thanks so much for the tip. I'm bidding on these http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...#ht_500wt_1182 but if they fall through (which is more likely than not to happen) then I am totally going with your suggestion.
