id like to get my stator rebuilt do any of you know where I can get quality "affordable "work done

Any motor rewinding shop should be able to do this, but how 'affordable' it will be you'll have to judge. I'm sure it will be waaay cheaper to just get a good used replacement....

Yes... like the two I have in my workshop. Rebuilding a stator would cost more than buying half a dozen used, good spares.
XS1100F 1980 European model. Standard. Dyna coils. Iridium plugs. XS750 final drive (sometimes). Micron fork brace. Progressive front springs. Geezer regulator/rectifier. Stainless 4 into 2 exhaust. Auto CCT (Venturer 1300) SOLD. New project now on the go. 1980 European model.

Steve maybe you can answer this, but if you were to rewind the stator with smaller gauge wire with more windings to the same size you would in theory get more output wouldn't you? I thought I had read about someone looking to do that before.

If you rewind with more turns of smaller wire, the output voltage goes up but current goes down. The wire size is what limits current.

Fewer turns of larger wire, current goes up but voltage goes down.

I bought a '100 amp conversion kit' for an automotive alternator a number of years ago. The kit consisted of a new stator with some much larger wire wound on it and a new diode plate with higher-amp-rated diodes. It worked as advertised, but what they didn't tell you was badly low speed output sucked. The alternator didn't deliver full voltage output until about 2K rpm, so putting around town in stop-and-go traffic the battery would slowly go dead. What it needed was a smaller pulley on the alternator or a larger one on the crank. Niether could be easily done, so I ended up pulling it off.

For the XS alternator, if you didn't get carried away and go too big on the wire size (one, maybe two wire gauge size larger?) you could probably pick up a few amps of output. You would also want to look at the rectifier diodes to make sure they could take the additional current; maybe ask geezer if he could do a custom version of his upgraded regulator. His regulator offers a lower rpm for usable output, so with these changes you would probably end up back at the same rpm as stock before you get usable output. Awful lot of work and $$ for a few amps...

I know the theory, but for actual design calcs you need the electrical engineering knowlege.

Try Custom Rewind in Birmingham, Alabama 800-798-7282. They rewind rotors and stators for most bikes.
