I was checking out Sharkhide metal protectant. Has anyone here used this product, does it really work? Can it be used on the exterior of an XS engine? http://www.sharkhide.com/index.html

Agreed with Steve and the responds in his link. organic chemicals and solvents are NASTY things. if used I don't think you need an SCBA but a full face respirator with organic filtering capabilities I would say is a must with something like that. as well as a long sleeved shirt and pants that you can throw away when done cause you DO NOT want that stuff mixing with your other close, actually one of those full tyvek suits would be best.
used to work in a ag chemical plant and we has some materials that similar compounds in it and we dang near would clear the building if someone so much as poked a hole in one is those bags.

While the dangers of all the nasty stuff this product gives off should be a concern, I found the actual results from the end users more interesting. The more highly polished the surface, the less satisfying the results and/or the degree of difficulty applying it goes up.
One other thing of note is the sellers touting of his product was confined exclusively to rolled/extruded aluminum, not castings. Castings (and particularly Japanese castings) are notorious for not being homogenous, and I can see problems with the finish when you run into flaws in the metal.
The problem with coating polished aluminum with anything is sooner or later the finish will get damaged (whether from weather exposure or chipping) and corrosion will get under the finish. You're now back to square one to fix it, as you'll have to strip and repolish.Fast, Cheap, Reliable... Pick any two
