  • What is the normal middle gear box temps?

    Folks,

Quick question: Approximately what is the middle gear box temperature on your bike after a decent (20-30 miles or more) ride? The reason I ask is mine seems to run pretty warm (150F or so based on feeling the cover plate) even on cool/cold days and I really didn't expect it to be that hot.

    Thanks!

Don't forget that it is bolted directly to the engine which will heat it up pretty good. Mine have always run almost too hot to touch, even with synthetic.

Never occurred to me to investigate a baseline or 'normal' temp for such a thing. Maybe when the weather allows me to begin riding again I'll shoot some temps with my IR non-contacat thermometer as soon as I get to work

Just for kicks, I pulled out my IP thermometer today for my 8 mile trip to church. When I left, it was 34.6ºF, and when I arrived, it was 128º. Same for the trip home, but the highest temp I could find was 130º.
