    Transmission whirring/whining

    Just bought a '79 E XS and there is a whirring / whining sound coming from the transmission area (near where the drive shaft connects). The pitch of the whine becomes higher when the speed is increased. Is this normal for the XS or do I have a bad bearing?

      Check the middle drive oil level, check the rubber boot for oil (shouldnt be any)... other than that.... mine whines too. Got new bearings.

          mine always makes a noise that I think sounds a little like a turbo.
