The ticking noise you are experiencing could be from a loose exhaust flange and/or bad exhaust gasket. Soak the stud with PB Blaster before trying to tighten or remove the nut to avoid snapping it.

did u replace the exhaust gaskets,
when u tried changing the headers?

hi bug,
thats not correct, the head has a 'seat' pressed into it made
of hardened steel, theres no contact between the valve and
any aluminium.
the valve and seat do wear out over time and closes the gap between
the valves and cam,
in the olden days when engines had lifters, pushrods, rockers
and the wear from camshafts resulted in the gap becoming larger.pete
