well today I started to take the carbs off, and I got em off but ran into some problems.

First the air box had a TON of gas in it and it soaked the air filter

so I said to myself "Self you know what its probably nothing big so keep on truckin" and I did. opened the first carb, which at some point was already opened and cleaned it pretty well except for the fact that the jets were already had an attempt at someone removing them and they messed the heads up BAD so I sprayed em and used my compressor to blow em out. Some stuff came out and again I kept on working.

when I pulled the bowl there was this nasty booger looking thing stick in a passage and I pulled it out. the needle and float were not connected to each other (every one I have seen was, so I thought it was intriguing) so soon ill pop open the other 3 carbs and take a look,

Now I lay me down to sleep.
I pray my headgaskets do not leak.
And if they don't leak before I wake, I pray the pistons do not bake.
And if they don't melt when I press the gas.

Just make sure you get all those let's out, pull out the emulsion tubes under the main jet, pull the choke enrichment plunger out (just be careful of the ball and springs under the choke rod). Get every piece out of the carb bodies and CLEAN them sang good so you don't have to redo it.

The gas pissing out and filling the air box is not an uncommon issue. The float valve develops leaks, especially the ones in those older style carbs with the metal seat and a metal tip on the float needle valve. A not so uncommon "modification" is to upgrade to the plastic floats, which can be bought at Mikes XS.com And also to swap out the needle and seat for the ones to an XV920 which screw right in but have the viton rubber seal.

Now that's an understatement. That's got to be one of the most comprehensive 'welcome' replies I've ever seen, covering just about anything a new owner might be wondering about. This one will be worth repeating.

              Hi Matt and welcome,
first, a warning; if you don't keep your raging testosterone fully under the control of your iron will, that overpowered underbraked top-heavy monster will kill you.
Other posts have already set you on the right path to fixing your bike but here's a few extra tips:-
Removing carb float pins without busting the posts off:
Sidecutting pliers and special gadgets work but my favorite is to use an automatic centrepunch on the pin tail.
              Removing knackered carb jets:
Grind up a screwdriver shaft to exactly fit the slot.
Put it in a drill press and bear it down on the jet.
Back the chuck off by hand while keeping the 'driver forced down into the knackered remains of the slot.
(The ol' drill press trick also works for cratered-out cross-points)
              Working on carbs:
Strip & rebuild carbs in a big cafeteria-style tray so the little parts can't fall on the floor & disappear.

The main thing is to be patient when working on the carbs. They can be frustrating getting them "right". You will need a set of guages to sync the carbs correctly. Good luck.

                    Hi Matt,
sometimes those float pins are really stuck in there.
The trick to removing a pin that's stuck hard is to apply force to the pin without any of it being transferred to the support post.
Those posts are kinda frail and can bust off real easy, especially if they are accidentally whacked with a hammer.
And it can happen, there's whole strings of posts in here on how to fix busted posts.
