6 are one style and the other two, the ones that came off of the '78, look different. Pretty sure all 8 are OEM, the first 6 for sure (8, if I count the two tht are currently on the bike).

Wires test bad on several of them. So I'll see about finding a source for new wire, but am now curous about the low ohm reading on these six triggers.
Don't fall too far in love with that Fluke; while they're excellent meters (I have a couple), you stack up the factory allowances and the percentage the meter can be off you might still be ok. If that meter hasn't been calibrated in a while, that may be a legit reading of a good coil. I should also have mentioned that 720 ohms is at 70F; if you check it at lower temps that will affect your results.

Japanese electronics of that era weren't known for their accuracy....

I think Steve has it right, the Fluke tests the known good triggers, that are presently on the bike, at 500 ohms. Calibration will be checked at work tomorrow. It is adjustable on that model.
As for the rogue pick up triggers. I have them here on my lap, but cannot find the digital camera. These triggers go with the TID 03-01 ignition box and the plate that the triggers mount to has PU286-05 stamped into it. Interesting part there is, the wire going to these triggers is hard, not the ultra-soft type. So, maybe I should look at the engine that it all came off of and see if the advance mechanism is enough of a superior design that I want to switch the whole works over to it. Maybe its a type that moves the cam/triger over rather than the plate.

Hmmm, very interesting! So its looking like the pickups are good.

I wonder if those are off an XJ? The XJ has fixed pick-ups (all advance is done electronically) and wouldn't need the flexible wire....

Thats a thought. I did part out one XJ also. I thought I kept the parts from it seperate, but maybe they jumped into the XS box.
Pondering if I want to go through the work to swap the whole works over to the XJ style to get rid of that silly flexy wire issue once and for all.

You would need to switch to the XJ tci box and possibly other ignition components. Maybe even cams, not sure about those though.

From the ignition point of view, I believe the XJ pick up coils were the same as the XS, but will not swear to it.

The big changes in the XJ11 were the elimination of the vacuum advance in favor of building it into the TCI. Therefore the TCI is different from the XS models. And the XJ has the vacuum P-E that signals the TCI of vacuum.

The XJ also uses 3 ohm coils instead of the 1.5 ohm coils of the 78-80 model XS11. But that is only important if you swap coils as you would eliminate the ballast resistor as well.

The XJ pick - up coils are the same as FJ's. I know 'cos i'm running the XJ pick - ups and TCI on my XS, and compared the pick - ups to those from my FJ. I'm still running with the original XS coils and ballast resistor. The XS i'm running them on is a US import 2H7, which has still got the US carbs which are so rubbishy compared to a UK spec set up, maybe it's for the emission laws in the US, but with the XJ pick - ups the bike now reaches just over a ton, at 105 mph, but it's a struggle to get there, but it's better than the set up it came with which would only manage about 95mph. I'm still experimenting so roll on the Spring.
