  • XJ11 windshield & possible faring suggestions?

    As much as I love the feel of the wind, I've come to appreciate the lack of bugs on my visor at high speed when on my XJ650 which came with a full windscreen. I intend to put one on my XJ11 with it's square handlebars but would appreciate suggestions of which ones have really durable polycarbonate material that resists scratching and matches the XJ11 perfectly.

    I'm less interested in a faring but if there's something that works well with the XJ11, I'd like to know about it.

    I've got this one on the bike pic shown below that is specifically designed for the XJ1100 and it's removeable/adjustable bars. I don't use a fairing or windshield and am selling this one. If you're interested let me know. $85 shipped to lower 48 states.

      Nice looking bike!

      That windshield is not quite what I want, I want something that also protects my handlegrips from the wind. I found when riding in really cold weather I would have liked my windshield to have covered my gloves as well. Yeah, gauntlet gloves are really nice but they suffer under 70 MPH wind at 25 degrees.

        My wife had the National cycle Plexifairing 3 (2nd link) on her Virago. Very good coverage and removes/installs quickly for cleaning or just riding nekkid. Both come in clear or tinted.

          Slipstreamer makes a decent one too. i have one for my XJ. Have to get the adaptor for the bars but those are cheap.

            Fairing

            I have the original Vetter fairing with lowers.
            It is much warmer to ride in the cold weather. I would even like the lowers to extend further.
            I would suggest you check any fairing with respect to speed ability.
            Most upright types ( non racing for tucked in position ) create a lot of turbulence and your suggested speed of 75mph may be hampered.
            A V4 1300cc Honda had problems at around 115mph. Sorry I thought it was slower. My SV1000S Suzuki goes straight much faster than that. It has the sport type fairing, but it is no good for rain or cold weather, only good for a full tuck position. Yami gets funny around 85mph. I lowered the front window so I can see over the top to a spot about 60 feet in front.

              plexifaing 2 is what i got....wouldnt take a trip without it

                I have the plexifairing 3 on my 78 xs, much nicer than the streetshield. Both are pictured in the link in my sig. Even sneaked in a couple of rides to work in November, in Michigan, due to its protection,

                  Just like the old saying that "There is no repacement for Displacement" I would have to say that there is no better way to go than a Fairing. Be it Vetter or Pacifico or some other brand. If lowers are available and you have colder weather even better.
                  I have never ridden behind a windshield before 2 yrs ago. Now I am a believer.
                  I will include a couple of pics with my reply to show the mounting system of a handlebar mounted set up for a 81-82 XS/XJ bike. I happen to have this on my XJ, but have not yet ridden it so I can not speak to how effective it is. The point is that while it does work there are a lot of parts and pieces to deal with as opposed to a Jammer. I also feel that the bike is more stable with the jammer style shields as they are hard mounted to the frame which does not affect the "steering" as much. Long story short is if you ride behind one up here in Canada with our weather systems you will never go back. Of course if you live in Texas you may hate the heat they produce.
                  Anyways without further ado here are the pics I took of the mounting system. dark and in a tent so Humor me...lol.
